Volunteer With Us!
At Booker VPA, volunteers are vital in helping us continue our mission of making arts education accessible to the Sarasota community. Volunteers generously donate their time by helping out in one or more of our various departments. In return, they get an inside peek at the workings of Booker VPA, support our programs growth and witness the process of taking a production off the ground and onto the stage.
Opportunities During A Show
Box Office
During our shows, the box office volunteer assists the box office staff by selling tickets for that evening’s performance. At times, this volunteer might be called upon to answer phones, collect money, give out a receipt, and whatever else is needed to keep the box office line moving and to allow the patrons to get into their seats in a timely manner.
Concession
There are one or two concession attendants who provide food and drinks to our patrons before shows and at intermission. As you might guess, the attendant is responsible for collecting money and making sure that the counter and refrigerator are properly stocked.
Hearts/Star/Love Notes
In our lobby area, we sell hearts, stars or love notes that get sent backstage to our cast and crew. This volunteer is responsible for the setting up, running, and tearing down of this station for their assigned performance. Cash handling is involved with this position and the volunteer may need to make change with the cash bank.
Will Call
We typically staff one or two will call attendants. These volunteers are responsible for sorting and dispersing all will call orders to patrons before a show starts. They also may be asked general questions about the show or directions to different areas in our theatre.
