Booker High School Visual & Performing Arts Center

The new Booker High School Visual and Performing Arts Center

Donate now to brighten the future for young artists and creatives

How your donation will make a difference:

  • Invest in high-quality equipment, instruments, and technology  necessary for rehearsals, performances, and technical training, ensuring students have access to state-of-the-art  resources. Ensure adequate funding for high-quality art supplies needed for students to explore various mediums  and techniques, from traditional to digital art forms.

  • Increase operational hours to allow students more time in the studio, rehearsal spaces, and classrooms to further develop their skills, collaborate on projects, and receive mentorships from teachers and visiting artists. This can include extended after-school hours, weekend sessions, and summer programs.

  • Cover materials fees associated with scholarship applications,  including fees for portfolio submissions, recordings, and other requirements, to support students in their pursuit  of scholarships and financial aid opportunities.

  • Provide financial support for students facing financial barriers to cover audition fees for college programs, conservatories, and competitions as well as professional headshots and digital portfolios.

  • Provide funding for professional development opportunities for teachers to stay current with industry trends, teaching methodologies, and emerging technologies in the visual  and performing arts fields, enhancing the quality of instruction for students.

  • Allocate resources for community outreach programs, exhibitions, and performances to showcase student work, foster partnerships with local arts organizations, and engage with the broader community, enriching students' educational experience and providing opportunities for public recognition and feedback.

  • Funding for summer enhancement programs such as workshops, performances, and guest artist residencies to increase students' skills and exposure during the summer break.

  • Arrange funding for master classes conducted by renowned artists and industry professionals to offer our students advanced training and exposure to different styles and techniques. Ensure a variety of visual and performing arts classes and workshops throughout the year, covering areas such as acting, dance, music, theater production, and technical theater.

  • Increase funding to bring in guest professors and artists-in-residence from various disciplines to conduct workshops, lectures, and demonstrations, providing students with  exposure to different techniques, perspectives, and artistic practices.

  • Funding for hands-on learning experiences, extended classroom experiences, exposure to diverse art forms, and inspiration for their own artistic creations.

  • Funding for our students as they are afforded many opportunities to participate in local, regional and national events, competitions, and assessments.

  • In order to put on the caliber of shows we do, we buy professional  grade equipment for our students to perform with and learn on. These range from professional lighting packages, to  custom-made costumes, and props we build ourselves.

The new Visual & Performing Arts Center provides a stunning performance and exhibition space - we are grateful to the Sarasota County School Board for making that happen! But behind every riveting production or event are countless hours of rehearsal, training, and practice. To enhance skill development, aspiring artists require advanced tools and supplies, a range of learning experiences and environments, and performance opportunities. Many of our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, but that doesn't mean they can't pursue incredible futures. Leveling the playing field for our students offers every single child the opportunity to reach their potential and explore their dreams. Thank you for lighting the futures of the young artists!
